| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Back | Betting that an outcome will happen — for example, backing a team to win. |
| Lay | Betting that an outcome will not happen. When you lay, you take the role a bookmaker normally plays. |
| Odds (decimal) | The multiplier for returns. At 2.50, a ₹100 stake returns ₹250 in total (₹150 profit) if it wins. |
| Stake | The amount you put on a bet. |
| Liability | The most you can lose on a lay bet: stake × (odds − 1). Laying ₹100 at 2.50 has a liability of ₹150. |
| Exposure | The total amount currently at risk across your open bets. It is usually held back from your available balance. |
| Available balance | Your balance minus your exposure — the amount you can actually use right now. |
| Market | A set of possible outcomes you can bet on, such as who wins a match. |
| Match odds | The market on the final result of a match. |
| Bookmaker market | A market where the platform offers fixed odds, rather than odds matched between players. |
| Fancy / session market | Markets on specific events inside a match, such as runs scored in a set number of overs. |
| In-play | Betting while the event is already live. |
| Suspended | A market temporarily closed, often after a key moment like a wicket or goal. |
| Matched / unmatched | On an exchange, a bet is matched when another player takes the other side. Unmatched bets are still waiting. |
| Settlement | When a market’s result is confirmed and profit or loss is applied to your balance. |
| Void | A bet that has been cancelled, with the stake returned. |
| P&L | Profit and loss — the running total of what you’ve won or lost. |
| Commission | A fee some exchanges charge on net winnings. Check each platform’s rules. |
Quick example: you back Team A for ₹100 at 2.50. If Team A wins, you get ₹250 back (₹150 profit). If you had laid Team A for ₹100 at 2.50 instead, you’d win ₹100 if Team A loses — but lose ₹150 (your liability) if they win.
